Cubtastic Preschool Families,

New activities for this week have been uploaded to the April 20 - 24 folder on Pre-K Resources web page. All activities are optional. Mix and match to fit your child's interest, attention span and developmental levels for each area. I am available to schedule ZOOM virtual meetings. Contact me if you are interested.

Dear Families,

Welcome back from spring break. We hope all is well with you and your family. The county is moving into a new phase of distance learning beginning tomorrow. There are several parts of this plan that do not impact us in preschool, for example, report card grades. Here is what phases 4, 5, and 6 means for us.

From the PWCS COVID 19 information pages:

Due to the challenges related to this historical world health event and national emergency; it will be necessary for our teams to adapt how we support our students. As a result of Governor Northam’s order, PWCS schools must remain closed for the remainder of the school year. As we ensure the safety and well-being of students, PWCS can no longer offer its students an instructional day and services on IEPs, 504 plans, gifted education plans, and required EL services as it does when schools are open for instruction. In the place of instruction, our schools and team members are implementing the following plan to provide students with opportunities to learn, to challenge themselves, and to review and retain past lessons. All teachers will work collaboratively and use proactive strategies to continue engagement in learning for all students including our English learners, special education, dually identified, and twice exceptional students providing the supports possible given the limitations of virtual learning under these conditions.

  • Although we are no longer providing direct service minutes to students, we are still here to help them by providing activities, resources and supports as best we can virtually.
  • All previous resources that were shared are still available.
  • New activities will be posted for you to engage in. Activities will be posted on the website under the Prek resources folder. There will be a folder for each week. Activities will be review, with activities to focus on all developmental domains for the students. All activities are optional and for you to use as it fits your schedule. There will be a variety of skill levels incorporated into the activities. Some may seem easy for your child while others may seem difficult. That is ok. If you have questions reach out through e-mail or ask in your Zoom session.
  • We will be available for Zoom meetings with families weekly. Unfortunately, we are unable to meet with our classes all at once due to confidentiality. Please let your teacher know if you would like to schedule a weekly time. These times can be used to answer any questions you have about the posted activities and to discuss further supports you may need as well as having a check in time with the students.
  • Progress reports for the 3rd quarter will be issued on May 4th. We will let you how they will be going home once it is announced.
  • IEP meetings are continuing. If you had one scheduled before the end of the year, it will still happen. More details will come to individual families who still have meetings scheduled.
  • Start thinking about transportation for next year. Some question to think about
    • For students going to kindergarten, can they ride the neighborhood bus if they are going to their neighborhood school
    • For all students continuing to ride the special bus – can my child wait at the neighborhood bus stop with me to get on the bus. This is new for next year. Discuss questions and concerns with your classroom teacher.
    • For all students – have emergency contact and pick up and drop off locations ready to provide to your teacher.

As always, we are here to support to you and your child. Do not hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns in the manner that you usually do.

Welcome Cubtastic Preschool Families!!!

I will be sharing information here and through e-mails to help get you and your child through this new experience of home learning. Don’t panic, we have been doing it all along in our home visits.

Here is our class schedule if you want to try and keep to a similar schedule.

9:45 – 10 Fine Motor/tabletop activities

10 – 10:30 Centers and one to one work time

10:30 – 10:50 Circle

10:50 – 11:30 Snack and toileting

11:30 – 12:00 Class Library (open to students daily)/centers or tabletop activity

12- 12:20 Circle

Earlier this week I emailed activities that we have been doing at school in each of the time blocks. If you are unable to follow our schedule or it just does not work for your family, make your own. The most important thing is to keep the sleep routines as close to possible for a smooth transition once school reopens, and to get your child used to the routine that you want to have in place with them while you are home.
