In the event of a school closing, your child is expected to:

  • Read daily for 20 minutes – ask comprehension questions such as who are the characters, where does the story take place (setting), what is the problem/solution, retell the story in sequential order with essential information.
  • Read with expression.
  • Practice rhyming words and syllables in words.
  • Write about your favorite part and at least one reason why it was your favorite part of the story.
  • Write sentences with using beginning, middle, and ending sounds in words. Use capital letters at the beginning of each sentence, spaces between words, and periods at the end of sentences.
  • Your child may visit the HMES Technology page (See attachment)
  • Count forward to 100 by 1’s and 10’s. Count backwards from 10.
  • Sort coins. Name each coin and ask how many pennies each coin is worth.
  • Create patterns at home.
  • Sort objects by shape, size, color, etc.
  • Write numerals 0-20 correctly forming each number.
  • Read and write snap words.
  • Practice forming upper and lowercase alphabet letters correctly.
