Welcome to Our Haymarket
I am Ms. Rop and I am the art teacher here at Haymarket Elementary. I see all of our students for art each week for 45 min. once a week. We follow the VA and PWC Visual Arts SOL's. Your child will learn different art styles, about artists, cultures, and how to manage different art materials. Please check this website frequently for new information, videos and artwork we are working on throughout the year! If you ever have any questions please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This is my third year as the art teacher at Haymarket Elementary. I have been teaching for 12 years and each year brings new creativity and wonderful learning. I am a graduate of JMU and also received my master's degree from VCU. My family includes my 2 boys-Adam and Connor as well as my sweet cat! When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with friends and family, running, taking pictures and painting.
What each grade level is working on....
Kindergarten- We are learning about our shapes and colors. We will also learn how to stamp lines and fill in shapes by tearing paper.
First Grade- We will learn about a family portrait and use visual clues to show different members of our family.
Second Grade- We will study the artwork "American Gothic" and draw a picture of ourselves and a friend.
Third Grade- We will learn about "Gesture Drawing" and how this quick, sketch way of drawing can help us determine the right proportions of a person.
Fourth Grade- We will learn about "Contour Drawing" and draw a picture of our shoe using a delicate solid line.
Fifth Grade- We will learn about Op art and create a picture of our hand that looks 3-D.
I keep all of the student artwork each quarter and give it back at the end of each 9 week period. I like to make sure all the student artwork is completed so we have a "ketchup and pickles" day to make sure we catch up on all of our artwork and bring it home all finished.
The PWC Arts Festival will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 10-4 at Colgan High School. I will be selecting student art for the show throughout the year. Stay tuned for more information to come!
