When in doubt, have your student wear sneakers!
The students work hard on their behavior and accountability each day. We focus on showing "Quality Behavior" in every aspect of our school day. Each time they get compliments in the hallway, Encore class or show exemplary choices they earn a mark on our reward board. Today, they earned their third level of the year, "Exercise Balls". Each student can bring in a "Yoga Ball" to replace their chair. These can be brought in any day and will be inflated at school. They are very excited!

We have been hard at work! Here is what we will be learning about this week:
Math- We will continue learning about fractions this week. Students will be comparing fractions, identifying mixed numbers and improper fractions as well as adding fractions using a number line. We will practice identifying fractions using pattern blocks and seeing how they represent parts of a whole. We will resume our multiplication quizzes, so please have your child practice their facts at home each night!
Reading- We will review how to make Inferences while they read. They will get a chance to practice inferencing while solving mini mysteries. Please continue to have your child read for 20 minutes each night. Remember to ask them questions about what they read as well as having them justify their thoughts with details or evidence from what they read. Encourage them to read different things…menus, recipes, magazines and manuals. These are all great practice for reading!
Writing- We will complete our final drafts of “Should zoo’s exist?” and will begin a persuasive writing piece based on water conservation.
Science- We are continuing our study of water by learning about water pollution. We will discuss ways to save our water supply as well as conserve it. The students will be creating posters that go along with their writing pieces about water conservation.
Social Studies- We are continuing our study of European Explorers and will focus on Jacques Cartier and Christopher Newport. Students will create a flip chart that compares and contrasts information about each explorer.
As always, thank you for all you do at home to make your child successful each day!
