Dear Haymarket parents, staff and students,
Haymarket Elementary is planning a Celebrate Diversity night to honor the many diverse cultures represented in our school community. We would like to have as much parent, staff and student participation as possible to represent their cultural background.
Do you have any items from another country that you would like to showcase? Do you know a national dance, song or have music from that country you would like to share? Would you like to share food from your culture? The purpose of the Celebrate Diversity night is to learn about one another. The more we all learn from one another, the more informed and united we are as a school community!
Please join us in the celebration Tuesday, April 25th from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It’s a celebration of food, music, and culture to learn about each culture represented in our school.

Make your own GLOBE project
Due Date: Friday, December 2nd
This project requires you to make your own globe! Each globe must include all of the 7 continents labeled correctly, and all 5 oceans labeled correctly. You also need to include and label the Prime Meridian and the Equator.
Please be as imaginative and creative as you want with what you decide to use for your globe. Think of an object that has a sphere shape that could be painted or colored and then labeled appropriately.
**** All globes must be 3-dimensional! ****
On the back are some examples of student-made globes, and attached is a paper copy of the seven continents. You do not have to use these, you may choose to use something else (paint or marker outline, etc.) to identify the continents and oceans if you’d like. Be sure to label everything, and place your continents and oceans in the correct locations.
You will present your globe to the class when you finish. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask J
Some examples of ideas/material to use for making a globe:
- Paint a pumpkin (or other round object) blue, and then label the continents, oceans, etc.
- Use a blue balloon
- Use plain paper lanterns
Be creative! You can use whatever materials you like as long as all of the continents, oceans, the Prime Meridian, and the Equator are labeled correctly! HAVE FUN J
