Here is what we will be doing this week:

Math-  We will be reviewing adding, subtracting, rounding and estimating whole numbers.  We will continue to practice these skills by working to solve word problems that require combinations of these skills as well as multiple steps.  We will also be reviewing commutative and identity properties as well as making change from $5.00.  Please continue to have your child practice their fact fluency each night.

Reading- We will be reviewing skills this week that help us comprehend what we are reading.  We will review how we make connections as we read (Text to Text, Text to Self and Text to World), how we make predictions, as well as making inferences.  We will continue to practice summarizing what we read.  It will be a busy week! Please continue to have your child read for 20 minutes each night, and discuss what they are reading with them.  Vary what they are reading…recipes, magazines, newspapers, fiction and non-fiction.  Don’t forget that Raz-Kids is an excellent way for your child to build their stamina.

Writing-  Students will revisit their “How to Build a Snowman” story, and will focus on sequential words and phrases.  Students will revise their work by illustrating their steps as they proofread, as well as substituting synonyms to help get rid of commonly used words.  We will review Homophones, Synonyms and Antonyms.

Social Studies-  We will finish learning about Ancient Mali, and students will complete their Ancient Culture posters.  We will then use these posters to compare and contrast all three Ancient Cultures.

Science-  Students will finish up their study of Ecosystems, Animal Behavior and Food Chains.  Their ecosystem project is due Wednesday, March 1st, and we will be presenting them to the class.  I cannot wait to see their creativity and knowledge shine! I have attached a copy of the project sheet under "files".

As always, thank you for all you do to help your child be successful!
